The Nominating Committee is pleased to recommend the following candidates for the two available positions on the Board of Directors. Each candidate has agreed to serve as a volunteer for a three-year term. The nominees include:
Sidney Parfait (Incumbent)
Sidney Parfait holds a Bachelor of Accounting from Loyola University and has 37 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant. He has been a member of the Post Office Employee’s Credit Union for 49 years with 42 of those years in service on the Board of Directors. He is our current Board Chairman and previously also held the office from 2021 to 2023. He served as President/CEO for 23 years and was instrumental in our progression into a full-service financial institution. Sidney is committed to the credit union movement having served 27 years on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Credit Union League with 5 as Chairman. He was a multi award winning Chairman of the Credit Union Legislative Action Committee lobbying Congress on behalf of all Credit Unions.
Mike Shillington (Incumbent)
Mike Shillington is a graduate of the University of New Orleans class of ’75. He retired from the US Postal Service after 37 years. He understands what credit unions mean to the average blue-collar worker and how we can assist in becoming an important part of their financial lives. He has served for over 30 years on the Board during which time he has attended numerous training programs and seminars to discover new avenues for us to succeed.
Ernest Parfait (Incumbent)
Ernest Parfait is a graduate of Louisiana State University in New Orleans and has been a member of POECU since 1979. He retired in 2018 after 40 years with the US Postal Service. He is currently a member of the National Association of Postal Supervisors and served as its Vice President for 6 years. He has also been General President of the Tri-Parish Area Local, APWU and State Secretary of the Louisiana Postal Workers. Prior to his postal career he was a teacher employed by the Jefferson Parish School Board where he also served as an area coordinator and secretary for the Jeferson Federation of Teachers.
NOMINATION BY PETITION
If any member would like to have his/her name included on the ballot, he/she may do so by petition. To obtain a petition form, contact memberservices@poecu.org. This petition should be presented to POECU’s main office located at 4624 West Napoleon Street, Metairie, LA 70001, no later than March 29, 2026 which is 30 days of the date of the meeting’s announcement. Your petition must include signatures from at least 1% of the membership (46 members). A brief statement of qualifications and biographical information along with the intent to serve should be included for any nomination by petition.
ELECTION BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Should any qualified petitions be received, then the petitioners name will be added to the ballot and voting will be conducted at all credit union branches from Monday, May 4, 2026, through Saturday, May 9, 2026, during normal operating hours. The notice of balloting will include a biographical description of each candidate. There will be no nominations accepted from the floor at the annual meeting. Should any qualified petitions be received, then the petitioners’ names will be added to the ballot, and voting will be conducted at all credit union branches from Monday, May 5, 2025, through Saturday, May 10, 2025, during normal operating hours. The notice of balloting will include a biographical description of each candidate. There will be no nominations accepted from the floor at the annual meeting.
